  2. The Journey Up Til Now

    January 9, 2011 by hearinnow

Since we met in the winter of 2009, it’s been a three way long distance love affair. All we knew is that we wanted to see each other again and make more crazy music; laugh, eat, make stuff up… I can’t believe this is my JOB!!!

We’ve seized every opportunity to get together and record, piggybacking HiN trips with other gigs that we already had in play with other musicians… We scraped together pennies and miles in order to make a tour of Tuscany happen in the summer of 2010. Jumped in Silvia’s RV and drove from Pisa to Venice to Ferrara to Siena (ahhh, LOVELY Siena!!), to Chianciano Terme, back to Siena and then spent 3 days in Livorno, recording, performing, eating, drinking and being QUITE merry! Tomeka even named a new tune after our new favorite drink: “Ponce”  The tune is languid, yet sassy – just like how the drink makes you feel!!

Last time we got to play together as a trio was at the Chicago Jazz Festival in September (2010). WOW! What an honor to be in such an amazing festival – surrounded by some of the best and most esteemed musicians in the world! We played in the beautiful Chicago Cultural Center to a fantastic crowd and then got to run around the city and see other great acts, including a presentation by the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians) and also Nicole Mitchell’s Black Earth Orchestra (which Tomeka is also a part of) – which totally BLEW US AWAY!

The three of us are looking forward to March 2011, when we do a tour of the American Northeast. Come back and visit often – there will be more on that very soon…
